The LEAD Program
Accreditation
Ohio Dominican University was chartered in 1911 as the College of Saint Mary of the Springs. The name was changed to Ohio Dominican College in 1968. The College became Ohio Dominican University in 2002. Accredited by The Higher Learning Commission and a member of the North Central Association (30 North LaSalle Street, Suite 2400, Chicago, Illinois 60602-2504; 1-800-621-7440; www.ncahigherlearningcommission.org, it is approved by the Ohio Board of Regents and, for the preparation of teachers, by the State of Ohio Department of Education.
In the spring of 2007 the Division of Business at Ohio Dominican University committed to achieving full accreditation for our business programs by the Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs ( ACBSP). Our business programs were then awarded “Candidacy” status by ACBSP during the summer of 2007. Last year (the 2007-2008 academic year) the faculty completed a preliminary self-study which was reviewed by an ACBSP Mentor in May, 2008. Based on that review, we have been cleared to complete a final self-study this fall in preparation for a spring visit by an ACBSP Accreditation Review Team. The review team will consider our candidacy and make a recommendation with regard to our final accreditation at that time.
The Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs is the leading specialized accreditation association for business education supporting, celebrating, and rewarding teaching excellence. The association embraces the virtues of teaching excellence and emphasizes to students that it is essential to learn how to learn. ACBSP acknowledges the importance of scholarly research and inquiry and believes that such activities facilitate improved teaching. Institutions are strongly encouraged to pursue a reasonable mutually beneficial balance between teaching and research. And further, ACBSP encourages faculty involvement within the contemporary business world to enhance the quality of classroom instruction and to contribute to student learning.
