Columbus boasts one of the larges college populations in the nation.

Columbus, Ohio is a big city with a ‘small town’ feel. Ohio Dominican University is located in the heart of Columbus, the nation’s 15th largest city. The Columbus DestroyersSports

Columbus is home to several sports teams, both professional and amateur. Columbus is home to the Columbus Crew - one of the first Major League Soccer franchise teams granted to a city in 1994. Arena football comes back to Columbus with the Columbus Destroyers. The Columbus Clippers - a farm team for the New York Yankees makes its home a Clipper Stadium downtown. The Big 10 Team of the Ohio State University "Buckeyes" Football Team is a major attraction in addition to the National Hockey League comes to Columbus with it's newest addition - the Columbus Blue Jackets . Scioto Downs features top-notch live harness racing and thoroughbred/harness racing simulcasting from all over America.


The Columbus Museum of ArtThe Arts

Columbus has numerous museums and galleries located in an area of downtown called the Short North. There is also the Wexner Center for the Arts (located on the OSU campus). The Columbus Museum of Art, located downtown, houses permanent collections as well as travelling exhibitions and social events like First Thursdays (a social gathering with discount admission and free parking at the Museum on the first Thursday of each month). Columbus is also a strong supporter of the performing arts; CATCO (Columbus Contemporary Theatre Company), Ballet Met, Opera Columbus , Broadway America and the Shadow Box Cabaret, just to name a few! COSIMuseums

Columbus is full of historical sites and museums dedicated to the preservation of history. The Heritage Museum, Brewery District, the Kelton House, German Village and the Thurber House are just a few. Columbus also docks the only existing reproduction of Christopher Columbus' flagship, the Santa Maria. Visit the Ohio Historical Center/Ohio Village - a library, state archive and exhibits that feature the history of Ohio. You can also tour the Ohio Statehouse. Columbus is also home to COSI - the Center of Science and Industry. COSI is an interactive educational museum dedicated to the exploration of science and technology.

 


The Arts FestivalOutdoor Activities and Festivals

Ohio is home to the world's best amusement parks. Cedar Point and other great amusement parks like Kings Island, and the newest addition - Geauga Lake and Wildwater Kingdom are all one gas tank away from Columbus. Don't forget the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, and Zoombezi Bay are all housed right here in Columbus.

Columbus also hosts a wide range of summer festivals and events like the Jazz & RibFest, the Greater Columbus Arts Festival, the Ohio State Fair, Memorial Golf Tournament, Oktoberfest, Rhythm & Food Fest, Red, White & Boom, a wide variety of international and ethnic heritage festivals and much more!

The Franklin Park ConservatoryColumbus also has many other unique attractions; incluidng a wide range of gardens and outdoor markets. Visit the Franklin Park Conservatory - home to a 28-acre botanical garden as well as orchid and bonsai gardens and traveling exhibitions of art and sculpture. The North Market is a historic market for fresh produce, baked goods and a variety of foods. The 13-acre Park of Roses is one of the nation's largest rose gardens with over 350 varieties.

Columbus is also home to a number of Metro Parks with facilities including golf courses, picnic areas, tennis courts, swimming pools and much, much more.


The Ohio TheatreMusic

In addition to the Columbus Symphony Orchestra, also check out the Music in the Air Series, and Picnic with the Pops. ProMusica Chamber Orchestra, Opera Columbus, The Newport and the Columbus Jazz Arts Group round out a diverse musical experience. Columbus hosts a number of musical venues and events. Nationwide Arena hosts a variety of summer concerts from rock to rap to country. The Jerome Schottenstein Center & Value City Arena also hosts concerts as well as sporting events. The beautiful and historical Ohio, Palace, Capitol and Southern Theatres in the heart of downtown also host musical and theatrical productions.
