Saying Goodbye

It is finally finals week! I actually cannot believe how fast this semester went by! It seems like it was just a week ago that I was moving everything in and now it is almost winter break. I have been SO stressed out this past week. I think that the week before finals is worse than finals week itself. Everything is due the week before finals, there are projects and papers and it is enough to drive any college student INSANE! But, I made it through, and now I only have one actual test this week.

This past Wednesday was my last day at Champion Middle School. It was so hard to say goodbye to all of the students that I was lucky enough to work with there. Unfortunately my cooperating teacher was not there on Wednesday, there was a substitute. I was a little disappointed that I did not get to say goodbye to her because I learned so much from her. The substitute was great though. It is really hard to be a sub because the kids will really take advantage of you. This woman wouldn’t have any of that. I was really impressed with her. The kids had each made cards for me to say thank you. They were the sweetest cards I have ever received in my life! Each of the kids made them all by themselves which is very impressive because they all have trouble with reading and writing because of their disabilities. I love the cards even more for the mistakes that were made because the kids were so proud of what they wrote and that they did it all by themselves! Some of them I could barely read but I will NEVER throw them away. Each of the students meant so much to me and I will never forget them. Sometimes I get nervous that when I become a teacher I am going to be crushed each year when I have to say goodbye to a group of students. I worry that I get too attached, but honestly it is very hard not to. Goodbyes are hard, but never knowing those kids would have been worse.

Well I better get back to studying! I hope everyone has a great week!

Corn-Hole fun!

On Monday, one of the sports management classes decided to have a corn-hole tournament. My roommate and I went over there and were of course on a team together. Our first game was endless. We kept getting close to winning and then the other team would make a comeback or stop us from getting the final couple of points. Let me tell you, I am really not good at corn-hole, so I wasn’t really getting any points but my roommate was kicking butt. We were the only match still going on, everyone else was waiting on us to finish so that they could continue the tournament, and the score just kept going back and forth. Finally it was my turn and SOMEHOW I managed to get it right in the hole to win the game. The shot was BEAUTIFUL. If I had been playing basketball, it would have been all net, no backboard. So we got to go on to the next round. During that game I had three more shots just like the one that won the previous game, but the guys we were playing were just too good for us and we lost. It’s ok though because we ate pizza so it was totally worth it! I wish I was in a class that got to organize corn-hole tournaments and get graded on it!

Everything is kind of starting to wind down. Band and football are over and professors are having the last projects and tests before finals start. I am very ready for Thanksgiving break, and even more so for winter break. I am just really starting to run out of the time and the energy to get everything done. School can be really exhausting sometimes which is why I am about to go take a nice nap : ) I hope everyone has a great week and GO BROWNS!

The End of The Season

Wow! This past week we elected our first African American President! How does it feel to be a part of history? I was up almost all night on Tuesday watching the election results and the speeches made by both President-elect Obama, and senator McCain. Like I said last week, I had no idea who I was voting for until I actually got to the polls and even now I would like to keep my final decision to myself. All I will say is that it was a hard decision to make. I also wanted to point out that John McCain’s speech was a very admirable one in that he stated that he would stand behind Obama as the President of this country. Obama’s speech actually brought tears to my eyes. I was jealous of my brother because he lives in Chicago and I thought he would have been downtown watching Obama, but he said he had to get up really early the next morning so he didn’t make it out. If I had been in Chicago nothing would have kept me from going to see history in the making. I did not really understand how big of an impact this election had on the country until I went to Champion Middle school the next day. A lot of the students there are African-American and do not come from the best homes or the best situations. The election meant the world to them: it in fact opened up the world for them. They realized that if Obama could be elected President of the USA then they could do anything they put their minds to. It was truly moving to see how much it affected those young students.

This Saturday was the last home football game of the season. We played Urbana and we crushed them. This was the first game this year that really reminded me of what last season was like. Last season we pounded every team we came up against. This year we have not been so fortunate. Our halftime show ended with Thriller, and we did Michael Jackson’s dance out on the football field. The crowd LOVED it. I must admit it was a lot of fun to have such a great reaction from the crowd, even though I was really embarrassed to be dancing out on the field. Anyone who knows me knows that I am not the best dancer in the world. I am a little sad to have come to the end of the season already, and I am very excited for next year!

My Little Sis

So this Sunday was the first time that I hung out with my “little sister”. I picked her up around four and brought her back here to just hang out and watch movies. We ordered pizza and put in the Notebook. When I found out that she had never seen it I told her that we HAD to watch it first because every girl NEEDS to see that movie. I think she really liked it, so I was happy. Then, we got all my roommates together to play Cranium with us. I’ve only played it once or twice before and I had forgotten how much fun it is. At one point my roommate and I were both on the floor wiggling around trying to get our teammates to get waterbed. No one had any idea what we were doing but it was HILARIOUS! I think my “little sister” had a really fun time and she wants to come back here for little sib’s weekend so I would say that our first get together was a success.

In case any of you did not watch the game the Browns lost to the Ravens again and my heart is broken. I really thought that they were going to win; they were ahead almost the whole game. I couldn’t believe it. I’m a little bit nervous because my car has been making funny noises and I have to take it into the shop tomorrow. I hope, hope, hope that nothing serious is wrong with it because I definitely do not have the money to buy a new car right now. My car breaking is probably one of the worst things that could happen right now so say a little prayer for it that nothing is too wrong.

Tomorrow is Election Day and I am so excited to find out who wins. I’m also pretty excited because this is the first presidential election that I get to vote in; the only problem is that I have no idea who I am going to vote for. I guess I am just going to have to sleep on it tonight and hope I make a good decision tomorrow. I hope everyone who is old enough gets out there to vote! Have a great week!
