Majors at Ohio Dominican

History

Degree offered: Bachelor of Arts

“Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it,” observed American poet and philosopher George Santayana. At Ohio Dominican University , History majors gain understanding and insight that will serve them well in today’s world and in the future as they complete a thorough exploration of the past. A comprehensive study of History – from the foundations of Western civilization to ancient and modern wars; from the history of Christianity in the U.S. to Islam in the Middle East -- results in a liberation of the mind that prepares students for the responsibilities of citizenship in the nation and in the world.

History majors gain a thorough understanding of pivotal national and world events and are able to analyze them from multiple perspectives. They acquire an ability to take the long view of causes, contexts and chronologies of past events and apply lessons learned as precedent to understanding today’s world. The emphasis on critical thinking skills in research, reading and writing are applicable to many different career paths, including education, business, journalism, law and government service.
