Majors at Ohio Dominican
Biology
For students who have an innate curiosity about the myriad wonders of creation, a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Ohio Dominican University will provide both answers and a springboard for countless other questions. Hands-on science experiments utilizing the latest technologies, combined with classroom instruction that recognizes the importance of humanities training, prepares students to approach the Natural Sciences in an informed and balanced way.
Biology students gain knowledge and practical skills. They are prepared for teaching the allied health professionals and graduate or professional school through understanding basic concepts including cellular organization and function, bioenergetics, Mendelian and molecular genetics, diversity of life and higher plants, as well as systems of mammalian life, behavior, evolution and ecology.
Ohio Dominican’s program is broad-based, rigorous and supportive. We are broad-based in that our course selection covers an array of interests. We are rigorous in that we provide a solid foundation in the basics as well as vision of how to apply knowledge to real-world applications. We are supportive in that students are challenged to grow in character as well as the ability to reason and communicate.
Natural Science graduates are workforce-ready for employment. Many go on to pursue postgraduate study towards a professional degree in medicine, veterinary medicine, optometry, or scientific careers in doctoral research. Education graduates who wish to become science teachers can prepare for teaching licensure in several fields by taking courses in Biology or Chemistry.
