Majors at Ohio Dominican
Art
The Art major at Ohio Dominican University is one built on tradition. Following the model of art academies of the 19 th century, students majoring in Art are provided with a solid foundation in traditional studio methods, materials and art history. They begin their studies in Fine Art with the study of drawing,
painting, design, and art history, which affords them the opportunity to master basic techniques. This mastery, in turn, propels students to in-depth explorations of their own personal expression and creativity.
The Art major also emphasizes communication. Students must articulate their artistic strategies, styles and forms when discussing their creations and the works of others.
Through a required year-long study of art history, students are grounded in the development of artistic vision, and are able to identify their own artistic influences. Through the major, as well as inter and extracurricular workshops on professions in the field of art, students are prepared for MFA programs as well as a variety of occupations in the field of visual arts.
